Transcription: On the 24th of March 1989, the supertanker Exxon Valdez hit a reef near Port Valdez in Alaska and more than 49 and a half million litres of oil escaped into Prince William Sound. This was the worst oil spill in American history. To make matters worse, the accident had occurred in one of the most unspoiled regions of North America. Winds and currents moved the oil so that eventually it covered an area of 8,000 square kilometres and reached more than 750 kilometres from the site of the accident.
